You Are Enough

When I think about how to nourish relationships, what comes to mind is that we first of all, need to be our own best friend. So often, we take care of everyone else, but forget to take care of ourselves, and in doing so we have no energy, drive, or love left for others, let alone for ourselves.
It is often suggested that if we aren’t doing for others or involved in the community and other activities, then we are selfish. It is wonderful to be involved in such activities if we can, but I think it is much more wonderful if we first make certain we are healthy and centered, that we are on track with some of our own individual dreams and desires, and then think of giving back to our – family, friends, work or to the planet.
I learned this lesson the hard way when I took care of three terminally ill family members, one after another while still working full time. Right after this I took a part time position – thinking that by “only” working a demanding job three days a week I could recover quickly and heal from these loses in my life. However, Spirit had a lesson to teach me. Much to my surprise, while “only” working on a part time basis, I “only” got worse. My depression deepened and my body exhibited all the signs of chronic fatigue. Eventually I figured out that in order to fully heal and move forward in my life, I needed to focus on myself.
It wasn’t until I took complete time for myself, and devoted 100% of my focus to my Spiritual connection and to various healing methodologies as well as rest, meditation, healthy eating, and nurturing my own personal dreams, that I began to heal and revive myself from these traumas. This process actually took several years to accomplish and obtain a new level of centeredness, purpose and joy in my life. I turned over everything to God, and God showed me how, even financially, to take care of myself while I took time to heal.
I think what helped me make the most progress was when I began to honor my inner dreams and connections with Spirit. I traveled to various locations on the planet. I went to England to visit the crop circles; I lived in Hawaii briefly and reopened my heart chakra, and visited Bali anchoring my energy to the grid and explored new cultures. I started writing about my experiences and penned various stories that were inside of me, eventually having some of my musings published in DreamWeaver and through my website www.WithAmazingGrace.com. As I healed myself, I explored and continue to learn about different healing methods, expanding healings for myself and others.
Little by little I am awakening to my true self, the person I know I was meant to become here on my Earthly journey. I can say today that I am once again a centered whole person, and I have enough energy and joy, and am enough energy and joy to be all I can be. I am learning that I am enough.
Do I regret focusing on my loved ones during their time of need? Of course not, but I do think I have learned to take better care of myself during such difficult times. As an aside, I also think I would try to find a way not to work full time if I should ever have to be the primary care giver again to individuals who are in extremely poor health. For me, this path proved to be almost too difficult for me to walk and remain healthy.
I know there are many of you who are facing far more difficult circumstances than what I have faced. Each of us has different energy levels and different challenges to face. What for one person is easy to handle, another may find the same challenge difficult – and vice versa. As Wayne Dyer says, what makes something difficult for one person but not for another is that each of us comes into this lifetime with different issues and work to do. I have a good friend who says that “this may not be difficult for you because it’s not your work – it’s their work,” or their issue.
So let’s explore our personal dreams as we can, take time for a bit of happiness for ourselves. Allow today and yourself to be enough. Let your children, friends, lovers, spouses and family also explore themselves and their own dreams. That is a huge gift to share with yourself and others. And, as we encourage and nurture one another towards each of our individual dreams, we will make a happier, healthier and more energized world.
