Perceiving the Fruit Of Your Faith
I was discussing spiritual matters with a young friend, who was skeptical. Like many her age and older, she was being educated in the scientific method, which is the foundation for much of the knowledge that we have today. I believe that education and understanding different methodologies is important to becoming a well rounded and informed person, so I definitely believe there is a place for the scientific method.
When I was talking about Spirit with my friend, she questioned me and asked me how I could know that there was Spirit or that spiritual occurrences were real. My friend said that she had been taught by a scientific teacher that if one couldn't prove something, then it wasn't real. I replied that that was an excellent question – how does one know what is “real?” I asked her to sit with me. I told her to close her eyes. I picked up an apple and held it in my hands and told her that I was holding something. I asked her if she believed me, and she said yes. I asked her to describe what I was holding, with any "real" information that she could discern. At length she said she could faintly smell an apple, and I affirmed that that was what I was holding. I asked her how she knew what I had in my hand, as she couldn't prove it. Only by her very subtle sensory information could she somehow know what was occurring outside her view.
I then went on to explain that dealing with matters of Spirit, of the Soul, is very much like trying to guess what someone else is holding while your eyes are blindfolded. To me that is a description of what faith is. Faith is having a true understanding of what is happening spiritually, while you are literally blindfolded from a physical reality. When we are living spiritually and using our spiritual gifts, we rarely can prove the reality of our experience, but like the apple I held, that doesn't mean that it isn't real, has form in a given dimension, and has flavor, smell or color. It's just that from our perspective, while we are blindfolded, we can't discern all of its properties, bur it doesn't make it less real.
Learning to use your psychic senses is simply using all your abilities including the five senses, but more. We have five physical senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch - well there are four more senses, but they are psychic or spiritual senses; clairvoyance or clear seeing, clairaudience or clear hearing, clairsentient or clear feeling and claircognizant which is clear knowing. Your physical senses also can be active when you are working with your physic abilities. You may be able to smell fragrances of flowers, or hear words or sounds, see images, even taste psychically, as well as feel psychically as when you have goose bumps, chills, feel a drop in room temperature for no reason, or even feel the touch of someone who is not apparently there. Learning to trust your psychic and spiritual intuitions is developing faith and trust. It doesn't hurt to be skeptical, but it is important to also have an open mind, and to really observe and pay attention to those less than obvious perceptions. Spiritual impressions can be very powerful, but more often than not they are subtle.
When you begin to open up and start perceiving "the other side" it is sometimes helpful to keep a log of your impressions. Also, honor spiritual experiences that you have had by listing them first, then as others come along you can give them energy by keeping track of them on your journal. For some reason, when one is working deeply with Spirit, the memory of even specific powerful psychic events or communications is quickly forgotten. I believe that as we move out of the vibration of the event, we become grounded in this dimension again and lose our focus on spiritual events. So it's helpful to record them.
As a bonus, as I grow with my spiritual faith, my faith in our creator and the universal source also grows. Faith allows you to walk the path of your life and know that every step you take is perfect, that all is happening as it should, and that you never walk the path alone. Faith is walking the path on Earth with the blindfold, and being developed enough to see, hear, know and feel with all your physical and psychic senses turned on. Faith is a walk with your heart open and connected with God, it’s being able to smell the divine apple knowing it is there for you in perfect manifestation and God’s care, just for you.
