The Grand Canyon - The Layers of Life
I almost didn’t make it through our visit to the Grand Canyon, or at least that’s what it felt like to me at the time. The power and sacred ancestral roots of this area hit me like a brick wall as we entered the village of the Grand Canyon.
I was on vacation, actually our honeymoon, and not even thinking about the energy of this site, as I was traveling on a spiritual and emotional high to begin with. My husband and I had just finished the first step in our tour of the Southwest, visiting Sedona AZ. I had been to half a dozen highly charged energy sites over a couple of days, was involved in my romantic honeymoon, and then we traveled north for an overnight visit and partial day at the Grand Canyon. I never had much personal curiosity about the Grand Canyon. But my husband, being a photographer, greatly wanted to visit this area. As distance goes in the Southwest, the Grand Canyon was practically at our doorstop, so I agreed it would be a good next stop. Little did I know that my spiritual guides would show me my spiritual roots at this sacred site.
I felt my guides come in even as we approached the Grand Canyon village. There was a strong but gentle and intense pressure on my upper body, shoulder, head and in my third eye. I felt my guides all around me, telling me of the sacredness of this area and the fact that “big medicine” was a part of this region. The entire area felt very spiritual, reminiscent of many of the other sacred sites I have visited. The Native American energy honoring the area, helped to weave and hold the spiritual energy that became more pronounced as we approached the rim of the Canyon.
Of course there is really no describing the visual impact that actually equals being on the rim. Every way you turn at the overlooks is a different incredible panoramic scene. As we paused along the rim around the Canyon, I expanded the experience of myself – expanding so much that I almost lost myself and the connection to my body. Physically I became extremely nauseous and couldn’t stand or view close to the rim. I had come to the Grand Canyon completely wide open and not fully protected myself. I was so wide open, that after a couple of hours I needed to retreat from the Canyon to ground myself; as soon as I did so I felt “normal” and only slightly expanded.
That night I dreamed a happy dream of one of the Grandmothers. She shared with me that the Grand Canyon area is the navel of the world, connecting the dimensions of Spirit, the earth and what feels to me like “pre-earth.” I was shown the web of life, like a dream catcher overlaid on this sacred area.
Years ago I discovered that one of my main spiritual guides is a Native American from the Southwestern area, known to me simply as Black Crow. During this trip I felt Black Crow’s influence and guidance, and became more aware of his protection and influence. As we traveled the Southwest we repeated saw the large “black crows” or Ravens that are indigenous to this area. They seemed to follow us from place to place, talk to us, be the first animal to greet us, and the last to leave us when night fell.
I have had many wonderful psychic experiences throughout the world that have helped me grow spiritually, emotionally and mentally. But this visit was one of the most mystical experiences in my life. Occurring in my own native land, what took me so long to explore this place? I do know now that everything happens at the right time and place in our lives. Who we are today is a result of all of our personal roots and varied experiences. They layer themselves one on top of each other. Would we understand the current lesson without our prior lessons? Each and every episode is an adventure, and is equally important to becoming the beautiful and perfect whole that we are today. They come to us in just the right sequence. And, like the Grand Canyon, we are layered with our experiences - called life, becoming a magnificent creation for us all to experience, admire and learn by.
So we can affirm: I honor each experience every day, for this is the root of my tomorrow and that portion of God’s special creation called me!
